directed and co-produced by me
I want to tell you about the process of creating an image advertisement for an Asian bar.
In this project, I acted as a director and a co-producer.
It was important for me to make not just a commercial video, but to create an atmospheric video that will accurately convey the vibe of this place. I wanted to show the uniqueness and originality of the bar.
The idea

The main feature of the Tsunami bar is unique author's cocktails. Therefore, I decided to reveal each original flavor combination of the cocktail through an uncommon mini-story of the hero.

Since this is an Asian bar, I wanted to make an allusion to the brightness and dynamism of densely populated Asian metropolises. So, one day the destinies of completely different people suddenly collide here, in the bar. Why are these people here? What brought them here?

Each hero of this video has their own question and their own problem. And the mysterious barmaid will definitely help them! She creates magical cocktails. Cocktails that will "awaken" our heroes, and open up new emotions in them, a new look at familiar things.
Pre-production. Storyboard

I made rough sketches of the storyboard of this video. Next, we worked together with the artist Vika Savchenko – we drew the storyboard in a more detailed way, taking into account the color solutions.

We have built some scenes in Blender in order to understand all the details and nuances that relate to the setting of light equipment and the camera department.

As a result, we created animated scenes in Blender.
Pre-production. Music

A very important part of this project is the musical component.
From the beginning of the project development, I understood that music, like the story itself, should be both dynamic and deep. I realized that the Shanghai techno, which plunges into extreme states of consciousness, works perfectly for the overall concept of the video. The reference was authentic techno Tzusing -日出東方 唯我不敗.

The composer of our project, Stepa Volkov, was miraculously able to convey the necessary atmosphere, set the right tempo pattern, creating dynamics without losing the colorful Asian traditional motifs.
Production

The shooting period was divided into two days.
On the first day, we shot scenes that reflect the "inner consciousness" of our heroes. To do this, we found a cool location - a huge sports hall, which was under reconstruction.
The second filming shift, of course, took place in the Tsunami bar itself. We were able to plan the shooting period perfectly, so we didn't have to stop the work of the bar.

Our entire team in the process of creating this project was miraculously captured by photographers Katia Sdelay, Alexandra Melnikovaas well as videographers Elena Tarkhanova, Venera Kim.
The Inspiration

Since I decided to focus on the cocktails which are served in the Tsunami bar, the concept of "liquids" was fundamental for me. The inspiration was primarily based on this very concept, on the texture and movement of liquids. The fluid as the impermanence of the form is associated with the changes of our heroes after they try cocktails.

So, in our project, fluid motifs appear in the artist's technique of "fluid art" painting, in the "mirror" of a girl who accepts herself, her image and appearance. A young man, bound by frames, after trying a cocktail, realizes that these frames are illusory, that they are only in his mind, and now he is running along a road that is dotted with drops of liquid.

Also, in this project, I was inspired by the works of filmmakers of the Hong Kong new wave. In Wong Kar-Wai's films the destinies of many different people often intersect. We see different heroes and their worlds that meet in the same place and at the same time. And, of course, in Won Kar Wai's films there is always a strong emphasis on the characters' feelings and worldviews. That is why, in our story, I decided to show different people who happen to be in the same place at the same time.
